HOME OF THE MOST REMOTE APPLE PIE IN NAMIBIA
A small settlement on the outskirts of the Namib Naukluft Park, Solitaire is a welcome site for weary travelers. It is the only place with a fuel station, bakery and general dealer between Sesriem and Walvis Bay. Famed for its magnificent Apple Pie, Solitaire offers welcomed relief from many hours on the road. The place started out as a bare tract of land purchased by a Mr Coller and his family in 1948 for the purpose of farming. His wife named the place Solitaire because of its isolated location. They built the first structure which was a two bedroom cottage, later adding other farm related buildings. Since then the land has changed hands many times but today it is part of the Solitaire Land Trust which focuses on ecosystem and wildlife preservation. Despite is remoteness this place has become famous because of its location, being on a very busy tourist route in Namibia. A must see place in Namibia.
All Year Round
A great place to stopover and take a break any time of day. But try and be there in the morning. The pie is the freshest then.
